At NCSA percussionists perform. The intimate conservatory setting provides excellent performance opportunities for students at all levels, under the direct supervision of Artist-Faculty member John R. Beck. At NCSA everyone has a chance to realize his or her true potential.

Since 1999 graduates of the NCSA Percussion Program have been accepted at leading music schools and universities in the US including: Curtis, Eastman, Julliard, Northwestern, Oberlin, Manhattan, CIM, Peabody, Ithaca College, Boston Conservatory, Boston University, Vanderbilt, SMU, FSU, Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, Carnegie Mellon, UNC, and summer programs including Tanglewood, Julliard, Interlochen, and Brevard.

Members of the Percussion Ensemble make annual visits to the Outer Banks of North Carolina during the summer to perform in the Festival Park in Manteo.

Performance opportunities both in school and in the community.

Central North Carolina is home to the Winston-Salem Symphony, the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, and the Salisbury Symphony, Carolina Chamber Symphony, and several Jazz Venues which book local musicians and student groups.

 

 

John R. Beck has performed with a wide variety of ensembles in a diversity of musical styles. He is a member of the faculty at the North Carolina School of the Arts, and a percussionist with the Winston-Salem and Greensboro Symphony Orchestras, Brass Band of Battle Creek, and the Philidor Percussion Group. A former member of the United States Marine Band, he performed regularly with the National and Baltimore Symphonies, Washington and Baltimore Operas, and the Theater Chamber Players of the Kennedy Center. Beck has toured the United States as a xylophone soloist with the Marine Band, Jack Daniel's Silver Cornet Band, and the New Sousa Band.

As a teacher, he has served on the faculties of the Universities of Utah, Colorado, Nevada, and Florida State, and holds degrees from Oberlin College and the Eastman School of Music. Beck is an active member of the Percussive Arts Society having appeared as a clinician at several PASIC's and serving on the Board of Directors. He presents clinics representing Innovative Mallets, Yamaha Percussion and Zildjian Cymbals, and his compositions, arrangements, and instructional video are published by HoneyRock. His CD “Shared Spaces” is distributed by Equilibrium.
